Here at the Freedom Project, we’re proud to support House members and candidates who share Speaker Boehner’s vision of a smaller, more accountable and a less costly government. The Speaker and our Republican members have a tough job in Democrat-run Washington, and we’re committed to doing everything we can to help in the fight to scrap President Obama’s economic policies that are making things worse.
There are several ways we can and do help – including by contributing up to $10,000 to candidates and members over the course of a cycle ($5,000 for a primary & $5,000 for a general election). Last year alone, we contributed more than $1 million to our Republican members, including 2/3 of the members of our historic Republican Freshman class.
All that’s great of course, but why are we talking about this now? Well, in recent weeks, you may have read any of several inaccurate reports that suggested the Speaker has backed one of the Republican candidates in Illinois 16th Congressional District primary between Reps. Don Manzullo and Adam Kinzinger. Neither the Speaker nor the Freedom Project has endorsed, and both are neutral in member on member primaries – we’re focusing all our attention on defeating Democrats in November.
We have issued contributions to both Reps. Kinzinger and Manzullo – though at different times over the past four months. That’s because the Freedom Project processes requests for contributions to members and candidates as we receive them. In this particular case, Reps. Kinzinger and Manzullo requested assistance at different times, and therefore received contributions at different times.
It's unfortunate that Democrats’ gerrymandering in Illinois’ redistricting process has pitted two terrific members against each other. Both Reps. Manzullo and Kinzinger are committed to repealing ObamaCare, cutting spending and removing government barriers to small business job creation. We wish them both well tonight – and will be fully behind whomever the Republican voters of Illinois 16th Congressional District choose.
