Coming Soon to Pennsylvania: Taxpayer-Subsidized Abortions, Courtesy ObamaCare

Despite a promise that under ObamaCare "no federal dollars will be used to fund abortions," the Obama Administration has approved a plan that allows taxpayer funding to "pay for insurance plans that cover any legal abortion" in Pennsylvania. Here’s the info from the National Right to Life Committee:

"'The Obama Administration will give Pennsylvania $160 million in federal tax funds, which we've discovered will pay for insurance plans that cover any legal abortion,' said Douglas Johnson, legislative director for the National Right to Life Committee (NRLC), the federation of right-to-life organizations in all 50 states. 'This is just the first proof of the phoniness of President Obama's assurances that federal funds would not subsidize abortion -- but it will not be the last.' ...

"'[O]n June 28, Pennsylvania Insurance Commissioner Joel Ario (a member of the appointed cabinet of Governor Edward Rendell, a Democrat) issued a press release (see: http://tinyurl.com/icrelease) announcing that the federal Department of Health and Human Services had approved his agency's proposal for implementing the new program in Pennsylvania. 'The state will receive $160 million to set up the program, which will provide coverage to as many as 5,600 people between now and 2014,' according to the release. 'The plan's benefit package will include preventive care, physician services, diagnostic testing, hospitalization, mental health services, prescription medications and much more, with subsidized premiums of $283 a month.'

"Examination of the detailed Pennsylvania plan (posted here: www.nrlc.org/AHC/PennsylvaniaHighRiskPoolPlan.pdf), reveals that the 'much more' will include insurance coverage of any legal abortion."

Kathryn Jean Lopez at NRO has more. And this isn’t the first broken promises on ObamaCare either. Democrats promised their health care takeover would lower costs; they’re going up. They promised people could keep coverage they like; not gonna happen. House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) released a report documenting all of ObamaCare’s broken promises – read more about it here.

The bottom line is we knew all this would happen. So did the Democratic lawmakers – led by Rep. Bart Stupak (D-MI) – who abandoned their principles and helped Speaker Pelosi ram ObamaCare through Congress, even though the law allows for taxpayer funding of abortion. These are the "Stupak Sellouts" – and here are the "Young Gun" Republicans looking to replace them this November:

Rep. John Boccieri (OH-16) –> Jim Renacci

Rep. Chris Carney (PA-10) –> Tom Marino

Rep. Kathy Dahlkemper (PA-03) –> Mike Kelly

Rep. Joe Donnelly (IN-02) –> Jackie Walorski

Rep. Steve Driehaus (OH-01) –> Steve Chabot

Rep. Paul Kanjorski (PA-11) –> Lou Barletta

Rep. Baron Hill (IN-09) –> Todd Young

Rep. Alan Mollohan (WV-01) –> David McKinley

Rep. David Obey (WI-07) –> Sean Duffy

Rep. Tom Perriello (VA-05) –> Robert Hurt

Rep. Pomeroy (ND-al) –> Rick Berg

Rep. Ciro Rodriquez (TX-23) –> Francisco Canseco

Rep. John Salazar (CO-03) –> Scott Tipton

Jim Costa (CA-20) and Dennis Cardoza (CA-18) are two additional Stupak Sellouts. You can help us take them on by making direct contribution to The Freedom Project.

As Human Events recently reminded, a "December 2009 Quinnipiac University poll of likely voters showed 72% said they oppose allowing abortions to be paid for with public funds." But Democrats aren’t listening.

That’s why we need your help if we’re going to repeal ObamaCare. If you haven’t already, sign our petition on ScraptheBill.org, join the 57,000 of us on Facebook who want ObamaCare repealed, or make a generous contribution to help The Freedom Project keep up the fight!
