A New York Times/CBS News survey released this morning found more bad news for the president and Washington Democrats, the Washington Examiner reports:
“President Obama cannot be happy with the New York Times/CBS News poll released this morning. Not only does the poll show him tied with Mitt Romney at 46 percent, but the underlying numbers show the American people just do not believe he is the best man to tackle the most important issue this November; the economy.
“Americans do not believe the country is doing well under Obama’s leadership. Sixty-one percent say the country has ‘seriously gotten off on the wrong track.’ Seventy percent rate the condition of the national economy as ‘fairly bad’ (41 percent) or ‘very bad’ (29 percent). When it comes to their own financial situation, 82 percent of Americans say they are either ‘staying even’ (43 percent) or ‘falling behind’ (39 percent).
“When asked if they approved of Obama’s handling of the economy a plurality said ‘no’, 48 percent to 44 percent. By contrast, when asked how confident they were that Romney could ‘make the right decisions about the economy,’ 54 percent said yes.
“And it is hard to see exactly what Obama can do to change those numbers. He has completely given up trying to work with Congress on anything. He will have no more legislative victories….”
The president is also underwater when it comes to his handling of gas prices, where 64 percent of Americans disapprove of his handling of the issue.
It’s clear that the president’s policies aren’t helping our economy – in fact, they’re making things worse. That’s why Republicans are fighting for common-sense solutions to remove government barriers to private sector growth, working to implement a true “all-of-the-above” energy strategy, and working to peel back the job-crushing red tape coming out of Washington.
