Right now, there are two plans for Medicare: Washington Democrats’ (let Medicare go bankrupt and put seniors at the mercy of ObamaCare rationing boards) and the House Republicans’ Path to Prosperity (which protects and preserves Medicare for current and future retirees). It’s no wonder then that the American people don’t approve of the Democrats approach, as two recent surveys show:
THE ECONOMIST /YOUGOV: 52 percent of Americans disapprove of the President’s handling on Medicare, including 36 percent who strongly disapprove.
CNN: The President is upside-down concerning his handling of Medicare, as 53 percent disapprove, including 56 percent of Independents.
It’s easy to understand why Americans don’t like the Democrats’ plan for Medicare. After all, ObamaCare cuts $575 billion from Medicare and puts seniors before a rationing board as Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) explained on the House floor yesterday:
- OBAMACARE RAIDS MEDICARE: “It takes over $500 billion from Medicare to spend on the President’s new health care law, not to extend Medicare’s solvency. Just as people have complained for years that we are raiding the Social Security Trust Fund, the President’s health care law does that to Medicare now.”
- OBAMACARE RATIONS MEDICARE: “Starting next year, the President will appoint 15 unelected, unaccountable bureaucrats to price control and to ration Medicare for current seniors.”
- HOUSE REPUBLICANS SAVE MEDICARE: “We stop the raid of Medicare in our budget and make sure that $500 billion stays with Medicare to advance its solvency. We repeal the Medicare rationing board so we don’t put bureaucrats in charge of determining what kind of health care benefits seniors do or do not get. We save Medicare. If you are on Medicare or if your ten years away from retiring – 55 and above - government already made a promise to you. We want government to keep that promise. Under our budget we keep that promise.”
Washington Democrats’ MediSCARE campaign may be nothing new, but their scare tactics won’t save Medicare from bankruptcy or protect seniors from ObamaCare rationing boards. There is only one plan that protects and preserves Medicare for current and future retirees – the GOP’s Path to Prosperity.
