Appearing in upstate New York this weekend, House Speaker John Boehner rallied support for GOP challengers Maggie Brooks and Matt Doheny. As the Auburn Citizen reported on Sunday:
“On Friday, Boehner was in the 21st Congressional District to help support Republican candidate Matt Doheny's campaign. Boehner was the special guest at a Doheny fundraiser in Lake George. Following Saturday's fundraiser for Buerkle in Cicero, Boehner made his way to Rochester for a Maggie Brooks fundraiser. Brooks, a Republican, is challenging longtime Democratic Congresswoman Louise Slaughter in the newly drawn 25th Congressional District.”
The Adirondack Daily Enterprise reported on Speaker Boehner’s remarks in Lake George for Matt Doheny:
“Matt should have won in 2010. There are about 10 races we should have won in 2010, but we didn't. … And Matt was one of them. That's why I'm here today. Because Matt worked hard in 2010. And he hasn't stopped working. He's going to win this race. He's going to be the next congressman from this district.
“I'm here tonight because I believe in Matt – and I believe we can win this district. This is the first stop on a three-week trip from one coast to the other, from north to south on behalf of our team. What we've tried to do over the last year and a half is to stand up for the American people, to listen to the American people, to make sure they know it's not about is, it's about them. Our job is to listen to the American people and follow their will.”
