"A Wise Choice”: What House Republicans Are Saying About Romney’s Selection of Paul Ryan for VP

On Saturday, Governor Mitt Romney selected House Budget Chair Paul Ryan as his running mate and nominee for vice president.  Speaker Boehner praised Romney for his choice, citing his work as a “reformer and a proven leader who will be a great partner to Governor Romney in his efforts to get our country, and our economy, back on track.”  House Republicans and challengers across the nation continue to speak out in support of Governor Romney’s selection of Congressman Ryan.

Included below are reactions to the choice:

Speaker John Boehner: “I couldn't be happier for Paul, and I think Mitt Romney made a brave choice and a wise choice.  Paul Ryan understands that the central issue that we have to deal with is our economy.  There's nobody that knows more about pro-growth economic policies than Paul Ryan.  And then when it comes to dealing with our debt crisis, probably nobody worked harder to develop policies to deal with our debt crisis than Paul Ryan.”

GOP on Offense: Boehner Rallies Support for GOP Challengers Brooks and Doheny

Appearing in upstate New York this weekend, House Speaker John Boehner rallied support for GOP challengers Maggie Brooks and Matt Doheny.  As the Auburn Citizen reported on Sunday:

“On Friday, Boehner was in the 21st Congressional District to help support Republican candidate Matt Doheny's campaign. Boehner was the special guest at a Doheny fundraiser in Lake George. Following Saturday's fundraiser for Buerkle in Cicero, Boehner made his way to Rochester for a Maggie Brooks fundraiser. Brooks, a Republican, is challenging longtime Democratic Congresswoman Louise Slaughter in the newly drawn 25th Congressional District.”

The Adirondack Daily Enterprise reported on Speaker Boehner’s remarks in Lake George for Matt Doheny:

“Matt should have won in 2010. There are about 10 races we should have won in 2010, but we didn't. … And Matt was one of them. That's why I'm here today. Because Matt worked hard in 2010. And he hasn't stopped working. He's going to win this race. He's going to be the next congressman from this district.

“I'm here tonight because I believe in Matt – and I believe we can win this district. This is the first stop on a three-week trip from one coast to the other, from north to south on behalf of our team. What we've tried to do over the last year and a half is to stand up for the American people, to listen to the American people, to make sure they know it's not about is, it's about them. Our job is to listen to the American people and follow their will.”
