Government Health Care Takeover

With Speaker Pelosi determined to ram a government takeover of health care through Congress, what do you think President Obama should do?

The "Slaughter Solution": "Passing" the Senate Bill Without Actually Voting On It
By Don@ 12:43 PM

Democrats are desperate to ram their government takeover of health care through Congress – so desperate that they now plan to say the Senate bill has "passed" without actually voting on it. This is the "Slaughter Solution" devised by Rules Committee Chairwoman Louise Slaughter (D-NY), and Congress Daily has the story:

"House Rules Chairwoman Louise Slaughter is prepping to help usher the healthcare overhaul through the House and potentially avoid a direct vote on the Senate overhaul bill, the chairwoman said Tuesday.

"Slaughter is weighing preparing a rule that would consider the Senate bill passed once the House approves a corrections bill that would make changes to the Senate version."

Not only is this latest plot legislative trickery of the worst kind, it reminds us of the dozens of "phantom amendments" added by Senate Democrats to their bill AFTER the committee had approved it. Nobody voted on those amendments. And now House Democrats don't want anyone to vote on the Senate bill itself.

Democrats are really playing with fire here: pushing a deeply unpopular bill through Congress without even requiring a vote won't sit well with the American people.   >>

Pelosi: We Have to Pass the Health Care Bill So You Can Find Out What's In It
By Don@ 12:09 PM

Another sign that the Democrats running Washington are completely out of touch: they think Americans don't understand their government takeover of health care, and if only they did, they'd support it.

The key quote comes from Speaker Nancy Pelosi who said in a speech yesterday:

"We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it…"

Gee, thanks Madame Speaker.

Another Democratic lawmaker who now plans to vote "NO" on a government takeover recently made a similar remark. According to WKTV in New York, Rep. Michael Arcuri (D-NY) said, "the American people do not understand and are overwhelmed by the amount of legislation contained in this one all encompassing bill."   >>

"Prices At the Pump Are Rising" as Dems Dawdle
By Don@ 11:06 AM

The New York Times reports that "[c]rude oil and gasoline prices are inching up again" – and that means higher costs families and small businesses. So where are the Democrats who run Washington?

Most are focused on a government takeover of health care. Some are still pushing for a jobs-killing "cap and trade" national energy tax. Others are blocking new energy production. The Administration is threatening to impose "command control" regulations. But overall, the Democrats in charge aren't really doing anything that would help lower energy prices and create new jobs.   >>

"Young Adults Are Getting Slammed" by the Dems' Jobs-Killing Agenda
By Don@ 5:29 PM

While Republicans have been fighting to help create new jobs, curb government spending, and get control of the debt, the Democrats who run Washington have been busy piling new debt, taxes, and mandates onto younger generations of Americans. In fact, several recent articles have highlighted how the jobs-killing agenda being pushed by Democratic leaders is hurting young adults and making the future more difficult for our kids and grandkids ...

  • Young People Could Bear Brunt of Insurance Mandate: "[F]or young adults, many of whom are not currently covered, the health care bill will add a new and costly expense to their budgets. ... [B]oth houses change how much older customers can be charged relative to younger customers. Analysts agree this will drive up the cost for young people, though it's not clear by how much. 'Young people are going to bear a disproportionate cost in this reform,' Holtz-Eakin said." (Fox News, 1/5/10)

  • Young Adults Are Getting Slammed: "[F]or today's young, generational placement may matter a lot in one area: the economy. The deep slump has hit Millennials hard. According to Pew, almost two-fifths of 18- to 29-year-olds (37 percent) are unemployed or out of the labor force, "the highest share . . . in more than three decades." ... As baby boomers retire, higher federal spending on Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid may boost Millennials' taxes and squeeze other government programs. It will be harder to start and raise families." (by Robert Samuelson, Newsweek, 3/5/10)   >>

#GOPCodeRed: Cornhusker Kickback, Taxpayer-Funding for Abortion, & More
By Don@ 3:24 PM

National Review summed up the fight over a government takeover of health care by saying, "The attention is on the Senate, but the battle is in the House." You see, Democrats want to force the House to vote on the bill already passed by the Senate by March 18 – the day the president leaves for an overseas trip. But what happens if House Democrats pass the Senate's health care takeover? Here's a look:   >>
